The YAG is one particular type of laser used in this treatment. In most cases, it is a very quick and virtually painless procedure.
The laser treatment is performed as an outpatient appointment in our private rooms at Spiteri Eye Care.

Posterior Capsule Opacification (PCO) is a relatively common condition that can occur after cataract surgery.
Sometimes, a thickening develops at the back of the new artificial lens capsule, obstructing light from reaching the retina.
This can lead to vision that appears cloudy or blurred, as well as difficulties with bright lights and glare. Fortunately, laser treatment for eye conditions like PCO can effectively restore clearer vision.

Your vision will be checked, and your intraocular pressures measured.
Drops are instilled to dilate the pupil for the laser treatment for eye conditions, specifically YAG Capsulotomy, which helps address Posterior Capsule Opacification.
This may take a few minutes to work. You will be seated in front of the laser, and local anaesthetic drops will be instilled to numb the surface of the eye.

During the laser treatment for eye conditions, the practitioner will sit opposite you and ask you to place your chin on the chin rest, while they explain the procedure.
The laser light used in this treatment for Posterior Capsule Opacification is invisible, but a bright light helps to visualize the capsule.
Each laser shot lasts a fraction of a second, accompanied by a loud clicking sound.
The laser creates a hole in the opaque membrane behind the implant, allowing light to reach the retina and ultimately restoring your vision.
Sometimes this restoration happens instantaneously, while in other cases, it may take a few days for vision to fully recover.

After undergoing laser treatment for eye conditions, you may be given medication to take home with you, and you will receive instructions on their installation.
It may take some time for the procedure and the instilled eye drops to settle down, so we recommend you walk or have a driver take you home, especially if you're concerned about Posterior Capsule Opacification.

This procedure is considered very safe, and while there are a few unlikely complications associated with treating Posterior Capsule Opacification, they are generally manageable:
· Rise in eye pressure
· Inflammation inside the eye - this is uncommon, but medication can be provided quickly if needed
· Floaters, which may present as dots, circles, lines, clouds, or cobwebs
· Damage to the intraocular lens
· Pain not relieved by normal painkillers
The vast majority of individuals experience significant improvement in their vision following laser surgery without encountering any serious issues.

Because the laser treatment for eye issues does not require any incisions or stitches, you can return to your usual activities right away.
You will have a post-operative follow-up appointment scheduled for 4-8 weeks after your procedure to ensure that the eye has settled properly, especially to monitor for any signs of Posterior Capsule Opacification.
You may drive again a day after the procedure, provided you feel your vision is clear.
